    About this item

A 19th century, Wedgwood caneware game pie dish, complete with cover and liner. The base of the dish is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it is also impressed with three letters “PCV”. This is the Wedgwood date code for the year 1867. It is also stamped with the number ’10’ which relates to the size. Both the dish and cover are moulded with dead game and the lid is surmounted with a large rabbit finial.

Caneware was used to simulate pastry and these dishes where designed when there was a shortage of flour for making the pastry. The game casserole was cooked in the liner and then place into the dish to be taken to the table. In this way it looked as though a game pie was being served.

All three parts are in excellent condition and it could still be used. There is just slight staining to the top of the rim of the liner.

    Dimensions: Length 27cm. Width 20.3cm. Height 15.cm.

Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £35. Most of Western Europe add £15.
