About this item
A rare, Wedgwood, brown stoneware vase with raised, gilded decoration. This type of decoration is more often seen on basalt, where it is known as Auro Basalt, or on and ivory coloured body. It is not common in any of these forms but it is most unusual on the brown stoneware body. This piece is marked with an impressed 'WEDGWOOD' mark but it also has an incised mark 'S840' with the S in script. You can see this mark in the image of the base of the vase. The stoneware body is quite fine and the raised gilded decoration is in the oriental style. The vase dates from c.1870. This was a period when Wedgwood were producing pieces in many different and unusual styles. It is in excellent condition.
Price includes postage within the U.K. and Western Europe. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £10.
