About this item
A rare, early 19th century, two part butter mould carved with birds at a bird bath. This is very well carved, in sycamore, and would turn out a three dimensional form. It is English and it dates from c.1820. Originally there would have been two wooden pegs which would have located in the holes, to hold the mould together when in use but these are now missing. There are a few wood worm holes which have been treated and are now filled, but otherwise the piece is in good condition and the wood has a lovely, honey coloured patina.
Dimensions when together: Length 13.5cm. Width 6.5cm. Height 8.2cm.
