    About this item

A fine quality, Wedgwood, smear glazed stoneware wine cooler or ice pail. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” above a large letter “O”. It dates from c.1830 and the O would be a workman’s mark. Wedgwood made wine coolers in terracotta and caneware but very few were made in the smear glazed stoneware. This is the first that we have had in nearly 40 years of trading. There is a very well detailed sprig moulding of grapes and vines to the rim and the detail to the handles, with the swan terminals, is particularly unusual. This is a superb, period piece and it is in very good, clean condition. There is just one small piece of the relief, on the end of one of the leaves, missing

    Dimensions: Height 24.5cm Diameter 20cm. Width 25.5cm.
