About this item
An 18th century gingerbread mould. This is carved, in walnut, with a gentleman to one side and a lady to the other. It is possibly Dutch and dates from c.1780. Human figures were subjects frequently used in gingerbread moulds. These are deeply carved and typical of the period. In the early recipes for gingerbread it was not baked, like it is today, but it was boiled and then poured into the moulds to set.
Dimensions: Height 32cm. Width 15.2cm. Depth 3.5cm.
Condition: There are numerous woodworm holes and some loss, due to worm damage, around the head of the gentleman. The worm has been treated and is no longer active. There is also a crack to the side of the mould. The wood has a lovely, rich colour and patina.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £20. Most of Western Europe add £10.
