    About this item

A fine quality, boxwood sugar or gesso mould carved with a garland of flowers. This would have been used for moulding sugar for cake decoration and plaster (gesso) for decorative plaster work on frames or in buildings.  It is signed by the carver “F S W”. Skilled carvers would carve moulds for both purposes and many of the smaller, finer moulds like this were used for both. This example is very finely carved, with excellent detail, and it dates from c.1810. There is a split across the face of the mould and this probably happened during the carving as it has been attached to another piece of wood in order to give it stability.

    Dimensions: Length 25.6cm. Width 12cm. Depth 5.1cm.

Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £20. Most of Western Europe add £10.
