About this item
A nice quality, fruitwood gesso mould carved with laurel. This would have been used for moulding plaster (gesso) for decorative plaster work on frames or in buildings. It is carved with a number ‘764’ to one end and ‘578’ to the other. A similar style of mould was used for moulding sugar and often the same carvers would carve moulds for both purposes. Many of the smaller, finer moulds would also have been used for both. This example is deeply carved, with excellent detail, and it dates from c.1820. It is in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Length 36cm. Width 6.5cm. Depth 3cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £20. Most of Western Europe add £10.
