    About this item

A rare, two part butter mould carved with a military figure. This type of mould was usually carved with animals or wheat sheaves and we have never seen one like this before. The wood has a dark patina so it is difficult to see the grain for the identification of the wood. The carving of the figure is quite naive and the mould dates from c.1820. It is also carved with the initials “I K” to the reverse of both sides and these would probably have been the initials of the carver. It is in very good condition. A small metal fitting has been attached to each side so that the mould can hang displaying both sides.

Dimensions: Height 10cm. Width 8cm. Depth (with two sides together) 4.8cm.

Price includes postage within the U.K., shipping to the U.S.A. and most of Western Europe.
