About this item
This is pottery pub match striker is 3 7/8 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall. The strike were a mainstay in English and French pubs holding the matches upright and struck along the rough side of the piece.
A spring was discovered by chance in 1852 in Georg Kreuzberg’s vineyard, in Germany. He named it after St Apollinaris of Ravenna, a patron saint of wine. The slogan in 1895 it was crowned The Queen of Table Waters.
The match strike is in great condition, never used.
