Antique Secretaires
Antique secretaires combine a writing surface with storage, which makes them one of the most practical pieces of antique furniture for a modern home. Antiques Boutique brings together secretaire bookcases, secretaire chests, escritoires and the French secretaire a abattant with its tall fall front, in mahogany, walnut, oak and satinwood.
Fitted interiors with pigeonholes, small drawers and leather writing slides are usual, and original locks, escutcheons and handles add to value. The guide to identifying antique furniture explains how construction, timber and mouldings point to a period. Related categories include antique bureaus, antique desks, antique bookcases and shelves and antique cabinets, chests and storage.
